Last updated on January 30, 2016

Yukon has specific privacy legislation for organizations operating in the public sector. Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories are unique, in that all local businesses are federally regulated. Therefore, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to the private sector.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner enforces ATIPP. The Information and Privacy Commissioner is Tracy-Anne McPhee.

Public Sector Legislation

Yukon’s public sector privacy legislation is the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP).

For example, ATIPP will apply to all Yukon Government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and corporations or similar agencies established or incorporated as an agent of the Yukon Government.
